Born to Battle – KKN Basketball Team

The day was humid, but that didn’t affect the enthusiasm shown by all basketball fans gathered at Chettinad Vidyashram on the 27th of January, to witness the start of the Kumari Rani Meena Muthiah Basketball Tournament, organized by Chettinad Vidyashram itself. Our own PSBB KKN team starred in one of the very first matches that day, winning over Chinmaya Vidyalaya by a large margin.

The next day our budding basketball stars played the home team, Chettinad Vidyashram, and beat them by a similar figure, thus securing their place in the semi-finals, and securing their status of a promising team in the hearts of the audience.

Saturday arrived, and along with it, the much-awaited semi-finals. PSBB KKN worked hard preparing for it, and their performance in the match against Vidya Mandir proved their diligence. They won, once again, making the last 3 matches seem like a walk in the park. They thus affirmed their road to the finals, which would take place that very evening.

The finals arrived, the epic battle between 2 teams, both of which equally deserve to be champions. This was going to a truly awe-inspiring match indeed, one between none other than our PSBB KKN team, and DAV Gopalapuram. It was an extremely close match, close till the very end of the 3rd quarter. With the lead see-sawing between the 2 teams, victory was in close reach of either. In the dying seconds, with PSBB KKN trailing by 2 points, Arjun of our team converted 2 clutch-free throws to take the game into overtime, leaving the audience biting their nails in suspense. Towards the very end of the overtime period, Prabhat scored the crucial basket, the winning move that secured our victory. At the sound of the final whistle, with a final score of 61 – 57, the PSBB KKN team was lost in ecstasy at their first victory of the year, jumping in joy and with jubilance in their every step.
