" Media is responsible for stifling the minds of the people." This was the core of the heated semifinal1 of the debating society held on Jan20th. These 45mins of cursing or praising the media by eight enthusiastic young debaters kept the audience and the judges on their toes. We certainly witnessed a leap in the quality of debate over the past few months. Each debater dazzled the stage with his or her own unique style ranging from harish's emotional and intoned appeals , Vignesh's "politician" errant , Prithvi's eloquent and dignified approach to Nishanth's cool and witty speech which washed the stage away. Very interesting facts through famous quotes were revealed in the process with a surprisingly high no: of quotes by Jefferson and Mark Twain. Though the time keeper had a tough time with the bell, some of the captivating speeches made it worth it. Despite the "not so great" rebuttal, the debate on the whole was a very thought provoking one. With the proposition winning and Nishanth , Prithvi, Vinesh and Lavanya being selected as the best speakers .Mrs Valsa Balaji, Mrs Geetha Loganathan & Mrs Malathy Santhanan, the judges for the contest ,voiced their views and had a word of encouragement for the young debaters . Lets hope that the second semifinal turns out to be just as good if not better!
