PSBB-KKN FACULTY HAS A RARE DISTINCTION IN TEA PROGRAMME

MRS. Devika Raman, Social Science Faculty had the rare privilege of being part of the 'Fulbright Programme' organized by the US government (IREX) in 2009.

It was a six week programme that commenced on September 21 and lasted till 8 November. One hundred and four teaching faculty from 21 countries around the world were enriched by this programme.

Washington D.C saw the congregation of all teachers for an orientation programme. The assembly enjoyed an instructive, enlightening and interactive session after which each one was dispersed to the University assigned earlier.

Mrs. Raman was chosen to be part of the Nebraska University, along with 25 other teachers. A glimpse of the daily agenda suggested the programme would be mind boggling and staggering with requisition of phenomenal input. The agenda included Workshops - on teaching methodology, on methods of Lesson planning, on Leadership qualities, on Building relationships, on preparing Web Quest, on Micro teaching etc.

As part of our Internship programme each one was placed under the able guidance of a mentor to handle tenth & eleventh graders for two weeks. I was connected to a High School by the name 'North Star public school, Lincoln' to do team teaching in social science with Mr. Burback, my mentor.

Exchange of different methodologies to teach a lesson was an eye opener. The facilities offered in the school and the system of free education filled one with surprise and wonder...

Several workshops on Effective teaching methods followed the Internship, A couple of the highly resourceful sessions were "Understanding the student's psychology"," Teacher as an effective leader". Participants were taught to create their own Web Sites.

Micro teaching as part of effective language learning was recorded and documented on the website- http://cehs.unl.edu/tea2009/

'The International Experience is valuable both culturally and academically It helped me to widen my horizon the learning experience I have gained is immense and monumental.

The ever valuable lessons I have understood about student friendly approach, open mindedness and transparency in evaluation are some of which I am sure to implement in my school, in my country'. - says Mrs. Devika Raman.
